On the verge of life?!?!

Belated Wishes!:P

Well this is not a review of Varanam Aayiram. I liked VA actually. But still it fell short of expectations. I would still rate it 3.25 on 5 because of its honest and sincere efforts and also because of Surya’s performance in the movie. I have a few issues with the screenplay apart from that no complaints at all.

Oik so what is this post about many would question. Well to put it in a sentence “its about me turning 18″. I dont see any major difference except for the fact that very few people wished me Happy Childrens Day! I am an adult. I can walk into Sathyam or Inox for any movie without thinking what reaction I will have to give if they caught me for being underage for an A certificate movie.

Plus on the eve of my bday I had this interesting sms conversation with my beshtest friend. It was something like this

Sara: Abhi do you realise, you can drink, smoke and get married to another major(not necessarily a gal if u were California :P )!?!

Me: Well if you look at it I can vote, drive and have my own ATM card.

Well that wasn’t me who answered it that way was it? I was shocked when Sara again spoke to me about it in a late night phone conversation. I rechecked to see if it was me who had sent that message. I was proud.:D

Well coming back to VA.Surya was on the verge of life for a good half of the film.I am still on the verge of life.I have not understood yet what i wanna pursue…in all probability I will end up making that decision towards the end of my engineering degree.

Till then I hope no mom of a pretty gal reads this post for in all probability they might end up underestimating my capacity to succeed and my chances of getting the pretty gal could fade away into oblivion.;)

And so after all those malarial and typhoid attacks..all those freak accidents..all those chumma treats…all those bday surprises…all the warmth and affection..all the ex galfrnd troubles;)..all the frndly kalais and fights..all those jus passed ejams..all those last minute plans..all those coffees and conversations..all those sightings and kadalapottufyings..I stand here not wanting to make sense of all thats happened! happy with all thats happened..and almost having found my love and passions in life:D..on the verge of life..no longer a minor problem..as i turn 18 and hope to remain so till I die!:P(can hear many minds go dei ithu konjam over!)

Thank you mom and dad! Thank you Arthi(Satish and Sammie Bammie) and Arvind(Pooja)! Thank you Sara! Thank you Jingli! Thank you friends! Thank you all!

Expressions.

o 8)!

:) :D :( :P :o 8)!

You have something to say.You are sure its gonna be good. But its not presented in the right way.All you need to do is to express yourself with some amount of clarity and your message will be passed on as per your wishes. Is it just me or is anyone else finding this world partially expressionless? Without expressions everything becomes robotic and monotonous so much so that we shall begin to find everything around us boring. And am bored. You are curbed to express your viewpoints when you are a teenager and when you really get the chance to express yourself you express something which your generation chewed on and it curbs the next generations expressions.

In India, especially Indian movies, most of the problems in society are either expressed in comic scenes or through song and dance. When you are debutants making movies, you abviusly pay attention to making the most perfect movie. You sit and work on the script like its no one elses business. We had two debutant directors at the helm of Sakkarakatti and Kathalil Vizhinthaen. They havent done their homework for sure. KV lacks some fun in a college story. They start off with an emphatic Nakku Mukka and become more serious reel after reel, scene after scene. The movie doesnt really carry off the message it was intended to because of the lack of humour expressed in the movie. It would have helped carry the movie forward a lot more. And how many more times are we gonna see ARR’s magnificent tunes being adulterated with graphics and all sorta nonsensical ideas tarnishing the very expressions the music puts forth.Sakkarakatti yet again proves ARR’s lack of understanding of debut directors. If only someone other than the top rung of directors in the country use ARR’s tune and carry it forward to the youth.Another movie which comes to my mind is V.Z.Durai’s Nepali. It could have easily been an awesome movie. The intention was good. But the love track in the movie spoilt it all.The most sweetest of all expressions, romance, soured the movies effect.

I dont know how much more angst i can express in this post. I am highly irritated with the look and feel certain movies put forth nowadays. They dont express reality and their imagination is not imaginatively expressed. A certain expressionless post by me is not gonna change much but I have atleast put forth what I wanted to express through this post.I guess its enough to stop you from staring at this stupid expressionless blog post and enlightens you to start expressing yourself with greater clarity.

What has he lost?

I told you PSDM is one of my personal favourites.I dont know whether its the vague lyrics or the cool promotional video or even the nana na na tune that comes in the song but it got me hooked on in no time.I read and re read the lyrics and this is what i thought about it. If you find it too vague..rock on to some other post of mine (self publicity :P )

Meri laundry ka ek bill..ek aadi padhi novel..

And it seems like Javed Saab got in tune with the youth of today to get these lines out of his head. The most lost things in our households today are bills and books.Bills we dont care because we can always go over or call over the phone and get it.Novels indirectly could also mean our imagination and arent we losing it?

Present mili ek ghadi..Pyaari thi mujhe badi

He lost his watch..losing time on unwarranted things..whiling away time..lost in thought and finding no grass on the other side. And he has lost the watch someone presented to him. Is he wasting time on something..he alone knows.

Mary Jane ka ek packet.. Meri denim ki jacket

Javed saab is back in youth lingo with his Mary jane-marijuana link. A loss of the Mary Jane packet symbolises his loneliness and his courage to test untried waters(further reference Sinbad the sailor) and the denim jacket loss shows the shivers hes feeling coz of his loneliness.

Dho one-day match ke passes..Mere naye sunglasses

Two ODI match passes..hmm..he is missing out on a lotta fun.probably distracted by something or someone.lost in thought. And what about his sunglasses..well..hes like lost in thought of someone or something and suddenly feels the pinch of the sudden exposure to the lights and sobs over those lost sunglasses.

Maine pichle saat dinon mei yeh sab hai khoya

If you ask me it was not just the past seven days he lost..there is more to it.Probably he lost a lot more time on loving a person he neva really loved or was infactuated about.Probably he lost his days caught in an illusion.Leaves a lot for us to think about. And I am still thinking about the song.Nana na na na.

The live version in the movie also rocks but the promo video is simply outstanding.

Rock on!!

Rock on!!

The movie has been praised to no end by the people and critics alike.I found it to be a 3 on 5 movie. It looked awesome.Music was outstanding. But then there was something about Rock On that missed the cut.The fight within the group wasnt as convincing a reason for them to break up for 10 long years each finding it hard to cope up with life without living their dream.Farhan Akhtar leaving his gal behind and moving to some other place just because he was insulted doesnt make any good sense either. And Purab Kohli was fantabulous in the movie but his funny lines were few and far between. The concept was fresh and chasing ones dream always strikes a chord with anyone of any age group..even gets a few of those oldies all misty eyed. But when you know the concept is falling into place dont they think a lil more about making it great.Thats where the difference lies.

Continuing about the music, its probably the beshtu album to come out this year. SEL have jimbly done it again. the opening sequence was outrageously awesome.Socha Hai is most devinately one of my picks for the song of the year. The awesomeness of the lyrics asking us to think about even the simplest things we have learnt about in lower grades. The guitar, the cinematography, the dialogues before the song starts. The ending into an audio casette, all amazing and I dont think we could have found a better opening sequence this year..probably the beshtu opening song after Oorvasi.

Incidentally I was talking about the lack of creativity in our society the other day at college during one of those class lectures and how much I wanted to sing this song despite my rather hoarse voice. All that has to be done is to sit and think for that one original idea like Prof. Nash in A Beautiful Mind. How much you hope people think about what they speak or enact before taking that big leap. Reminds me immediately of my physics sir who asks us to concentrate more on R&D. We couldnt care less when he was saying so but now I was wondering why I didnt think about thinking out of the box and achieving something.

One of the greatest achievements of the movie is also the fact that CHARACTERISATION was A1! I was pleasantly surprised to see that a hubby wife fight not ending in physical fights..instead they keep mum and continue with their lives just like the way it is in reality. A special mention of Shahana Goswami she was simply marvellous as the wife who had dreams of making it big but gave it all up and continues to be devoted to her love.

All the songs in the album rock. Pichle Saath Dinon Mein is another personal favourite of mine along with Tum Ho toh and Sinbad the sailor. And this movie coupled with my interaction with a metal band in my college got me thinking about a movie of a rock band based in Tamil Nadu. Hitting a very specific target group but then Not so liberal not so conservative society + Rock Music = Interesting thought! Ninaithaale Inikum 2! Short form reads NI 2!:P What say?
