Bilkul A-1!!!

When SRK aint SRK!!!

When SRK aint SRK!!!

Shahrukh “The King” Khan.Badshah of bollywood.Proves why he has become a kinda one man industry with this one movie. He shoots in and out of two distinctly diverse characters which only the heroine in the movie cant figure out.Thats the only problem one would have with RNBDJ.

This is where I loved the movie. If it was me some months ago I would have killed this movie like nobodys business for I hate SRK when he is SRK. He gets that ego yet maintaining that charm,he believes audiences will accept his Raj anyday.No-one can romanticize romance Yash Raj ishtyle. They rule the roost in this department. I wasnt much amused by DDLJ nor was I by KKHH.(distributed by Yash Raj)

But Rab Ne was different.It was straight forward yet so in depth.Its refreshing.It shows exactly why some Men end up building a monument such as the Taj Mahal for their love and neva eva will a woman.It answers why only men commit suicide over love failures.It says it all in true Yash Raj ishtyle that makes the movie entertaining and a thoughtful one at the same time.Just go to see divine love and yea Haule Haule ho jayega pyar!!!{Love shall happen,slowly slowly}

Om Shanthi Om!

P.S.: Tujhme Rab Dikhtha hai, Haule Haule two enjoyable tracks and the music is the only let down in this beauty of a movie! And for all you non believers of Tanni not differentiating the two SRK’s..look at the movie as Tanni’s dream of accepting her fate and how she would like to accept her fate you might find yourself appreciating it more! Wolah Duality construct!!!

Finding my calling!

Filed under: Movie Review, Personal — sheksshake @ 3:48 am

Its just not a post to ponder over the fact that I am yet to decide what I want to do in life, its also a post that might highlight some changes in my life on close notice. To begin with I loved the movie Oye Lucky Lucky Oye! The making of a celebrated thief, could have been a Catch me if you can pretty easily but Dibakar shows us how to make movies classically entertaining. Watch it and dont miss out on the dialogues..the one liner counters are as awesome as it can get.

Bro came in from San Diego, we had this usual conversation..its my study holidays and I didnt touch my books as yet. So we were talking. I recommended this book by Arvind Subramaniam, a distant relative of ours and my brother didnt seem to care a damn for the book. He gave me a one line reply outta no-where and thats still got me thinking,”Chubby, dont ever read books that tells you about the next big thing instead learn the fundamentals that will make you question the very facts put forth in such books and will make you the content of such books.”

So how strong am I with fundamentals..I guess am pretty weak.I dont know where to go forward the path to take as I now stand at the fork.I would love to do something creative;movies,writing,blah blah;I might not be extremely talented in these fields but I feel its all there to go forward. Then there is this thought of respect from people,for which one needs to hold a big post esp. in India.And the need to do something for society has always been there.IAS,I presumed is one more direction forward. And then comes dad’s decision of me doing a MBA.I dont mind really but I dont know my calling,still on the verge of my life.Or should i go the Lucky way of not caring about the future,just steal for the present and get along with life. Would I get what I want later if am not successful?Can there be a guarantee? Well unfortunately I better find my calling soon..till then its only thinking “Mera number khab aayega!”{When will my turn come?}

But am pretty certain about certain stuff thats gonna stay in the future..thats neva eva gonna change. And for the first time..en blog elithugalil muthal murayaga..I would like the entire blogosphere to know..its D.It is written.

Socha Hai!

Rock on!!

Rock on!!

The movie has been praised to no end by the people and critics alike.I found it to be a 3 on 5 movie. It looked awesome.Music was outstanding. But then there was something about Rock On that missed the cut.The fight within the group wasnt as convincing a reason for them to break up for 10 long years each finding it hard to cope up with life without living their dream.Farhan Akhtar leaving his gal behind and moving to some other place just because he was insulted doesnt make any good sense either. And Purab Kohli was fantabulous in the movie but his funny lines were few and far between. The concept was fresh and chasing ones dream always strikes a chord with anyone of any age group..even gets a few of those oldies all misty eyed. But when you know the concept is falling into place dont they think a lil more about making it great.Thats where the difference lies.

Continuing about the music, its probably the beshtu album to come out this year. SEL have jimbly done it again. the opening sequence was outrageously awesome.Socha Hai is most devinately one of my picks for the song of the year. The awesomeness of the lyrics asking us to think about even the simplest things we have learnt about in lower grades. The guitar, the cinematography, the dialogues before the song starts. The ending into an audio casette, all amazing and I dont think we could have found a better opening sequence this year..probably the beshtu opening song after Oorvasi.

Incidentally I was talking about the lack of creativity in our society the other day at college during one of those class lectures and how much I wanted to sing this song despite my rather hoarse voice. All that has to be done is to sit and think for that one original idea like Prof. Nash in A Beautiful Mind. How much you hope people think about what they speak or enact before taking that big leap. Reminds me immediately of my physics sir who asks us to concentrate more on R&D. We couldnt care less when he was saying so but now I was wondering why I didnt think about thinking out of the box and achieving something.

One of the greatest achievements of the movie is also the fact that CHARACTERISATION was A1! I was pleasantly surprised to see that a hubby wife fight not ending in physical fights..instead they keep mum and continue with their lives just like the way it is in reality. A special mention of Shahana Goswami she was simply marvellous as the wife who had dreams of making it big but gave it all up and continues to be devoted to her love.

All the songs in the album rock. Pichle Saath Dinon Mein is another personal favourite of mine along with Tum Ho toh and Sinbad the sailor. And this movie coupled with my interaction with a metal band in my college got me thinking about a movie of a rock band based in Tamil Nadu. Hitting a very specific target group but then Not so liberal not so conservative society + Rock Music = Interesting thought! Ninaithaale Inikum 2! Short form reads NI 2!:P What say?

Jaane tu yeh side show!

Filed under: Movie Review — sheksshake @ 2:54 am
The side acts!

The side acts!

Jaane tu ya Jaane na..my second movie review in succession. It might start looking like the blog of Sudish Kamath if I write the reviews of all the movies i have seen off late.Have seen like 4 movies in 5 odd days.So sticking to just this one.The hype and the hoopla for this movie was created basically around Rahman’s scintillating score and Aamir’s production values. The movie is the release vehicle for Imran Khan and the movie was as expected marketed around the lead pair.

But then on watching the movie I realised the lead pair’s tale is too cliched. But i still liked the movie for a majority of reasons. The side artists were off the top amasssing[amazing].If not for them this would have been another mundane script from Abbas Tyrewala.Rathna Pathak Shaw as Imrans mom will surely be remembered for this role so will her on screen hubby Mr.Naseeruddin Shah!Intelligently mocking television serials Tyrewala showcases Shah from a picture.Prateik Babbar was outright magnificent..his role etched to perfection..that scene between Babbar and Genelia about her not remembering his friends..what a piece of writing..could just watch it over and over again. The Khan brothers in a gem of a role not quiet making sense till the last moments were a treat to watch. They should consider doing more cowboy roles.Paresh Rawal, just his appearence on screen and you know you are in for a laughter marathon..two scenes and his class is simply classy!:P Manjari was good but i felt Ayaz Khan was an unnecessary inclusion in the movie. The friends of Rats and Meow played with much elan by Aliksha Varde, Nirav Mehta, Karan Makhjia and Sugandha Garg take the pie.

Imran Khan makes a neat debut sans overacting.Genelia continues to do dumb bubbly gal roles after Santosh Subbu.Tyrewala’s lyrics in Kabhi Kabhi Aditi and dialogues are awe inspiring.Rahman’s lends a touch of class to the movie as he always does.Songs are chartbusters, an album you can treasure.Reality is the core of the movie but then i feel the movie left a few stones unturned by showcasing a few issues as truly available to people of the higher class and not being acceptable to middle class mentality. It was fun to watch and a cute film all over!Anbe Sivam!

Om Shanthi Om!

P.S:If Imran Khan was made to act all alone much like Ranbir Kapoor and Harman Hrithik Baweja in their debut movies, I dont think he would have gotten a favourable review.Waiting for your solo hero role Imran!Bring it on!:D

Dasavatharam or Da”savvu”thalam?

Filed under: Movie Review — sheksshake @ 2:19 am
Hari Om!

Hari Om!

Enough has been written about Dasavatharam. Many say its an experience which one should just experience. Many call it the movie fit to win the oscars. Many have thrown bricks and bats at it, me certainly included..so what is it about Dasavatharam that has made sucha indelible mark in Tamil cinema off late.Praise it or bane it one couldn have avoided it!

Dasavatharam

-> The first epic 15 minutes..whatever said and done this is probably the beshtu part of the movie. So much for Nambi being a part of my article

-> The unmistakable connection to the 10 avatars on close introspection of the movie..but then hey who would have such far fledged thinking

-> Dialogue delivery..kamal takes the cake in this department..the only reason no other actor can outdo kamal is probably his way to get the dialect right. He lost that too on close reference at some places.

-> The very thought of doing 10 roles hasnt struck anyone till date and Kamal being the man he is..remember man and not the actor..pulls them off with elan.

-> The message he got in with the movie..bringing in every religion and caste into the picture..and giving them each a dialogue or so atleast to show their plight in society. A few dialogues that could be termed classic. And also the everything happens for the good and the intentions of humans nowadays to go back to war.

Da”savvu”thalam

-> Many might disagree..but Kamal’s make-up fetish is the movie’s biggest loss according to me.They appeared like emotionless dummies with chappathi faces walking in and out of scenes.

-> Female characterisation..so much for the industry being male dominated.Asin and Mallika leave a small impression atleast and Jayaprada made zilch impression..i would go so long to say that Krishnaveni paati left a greater impact only probably cause it was played by Kamal himself.

-> Screenplay wasnt terrific and the dialogues almost pretty ordinary except for a few here and there.Remember Kamal has himself never promised a great story with this movie[check the link below]..he just told us that there was a movie in which he did 10 roles..and thats true it is there…but then screenplay innum konjam tighten panni padatha konjam cut panirklam.

http://www.behindwoods.com/tamil-movie-news-1/jul-08-01/kamal-04-07-08.html

->A few logical issues with the movie..all of a sudden seemed like am watching Kamal trying to do a Rajnikanth somewhere in the middle..but then Rajni is Rajni noone can be the superstar..Kamal should stick to his kinda movies..leaving Rajnikanth to his own..but then dont watch the movie with complete logic people say but then DUH ITS A KAMAL MOVIE.

-> Connectivity is a major issue in the movie..people come out and ask are all these characters required..hmm probably aes(yes) and probably nope..depends on how u look at it.The idea of the butterfly effect just doesnt sell in this movie.

-> Kamal in this movie..self indulgent partly yes.Music sucked. If it wasnt Kamal doing 10 roles i wont even bother going and watching this movie a second time over.If this is entertainment then either Kamal has bad taste or i do.If this movie was supposed to make one sit up and think..sorry it didn make me do so.And last but not the least, the movie was 90% graphics and they were not upto the mark..sorry to say but Mr. Brian Jennings you were just about average in this flick.

I love Kamal a lot.Hes the best acting talent in the country. But he should realize that a movie where he spends 80 crores of someone else’s money isnt a place to throw his aesthetics.Just hope he works well on Marmayogi makes enough money and does his dream Marudhanayakam. The movie at beshtu is still an average flick for me. Not the beshtu of Kamal, not the beshtu movie to be sent to the Oscars.Anbe Sivam!

Om Shanthi Om!

P.S.:I am great fan of Rajnikanth too!:D
